Is that Foundation Solid Yet?

Friday, October 23

Well not quite yet. Some sub-electrical went in & some sub-plumbing today. Another concrete slab will be poured on this, then framing can finally start. I'm getting ansy for the next phase!!

Goodbye Marble, Hello Quartzite

I love carrera marble, calcutta marble, basically any marble. So of course I wanted to use carrera in my new kitchen. However, my dear husband enlightened me that I'm "not really the cleanest cook" and marble is finicky.  This means that spaghetti sauce could (and would) stain the marble, hot pans without a trivet could (and would) leave a mark, and anything that's acidic could (and would) etch the surface.  Can you imagine my kitchen after I've just completed a spaghetti dinner? Well, I did and after it's all cleaned up, I visioned terribly scarred marble. I decided to choose something that is as durable as granite & as beautiful as marble. Quartzite.  Pictures, of course, do my selections no justice, but here's a sampling of my island & the perimeter countertops.
